About our rooms

SOUTHLANDS has a selection of well-appointed rooms which are available for hire when not in use for church groups, events and meetings.
 
Room 1View of Room 1 at Southlands Methodist Church
This room, which is accessible at ground level is one of the most heavily used rooms in the premises and is particularly useful for meetings. The room is carpeted and well-lit and it accommodates 50-plus people.
There is a double power socket at both ends of the room and a pull-down screen is fitted on one wall. There is also a loop system for this room.
An upright piano is kept in this room which also has the advantage of being near the main kitchen.
 
Room 2A view of Room 2 at Southlands Methodist Church
This room is on the first floor at the top of the main staircase and also has stair-lift access. Like Room 1, which is immediately below, it is carpeted and accommodates 50 people.
There is a double power socket at both ends of the room and a pull-down screen is fitted on one wall.
This room also has an upright piano.
 
Room 3View of Room 3 at Southlands Methodist Church
This room, on the first floor with staircase and stair-lift access, is the smallest of our meeting rooms, but it is carpeted and will accommodate 20 people. There are double power sockets on two walls and the room has the advantage of direct access to a unisex toilet. There is also an upright piano.

This hall is not carpeted but has a modern oak-block floor at ground level on which 80 people can be accommodated. It has the advantage of direct access to toilets for men and women and a toilet for the disabled (Radar key required). If needed an upright piano can be wheeled out of an adjoining storeroom.

The church itself can accommodate just over 200 people though seating is normally set out for just over 100. The floor slopes gently down to the front where there is a dais and a motor-driven projector screen. There is also a Bechstein grand piano and the main kitchen is nearby.
 
 
 
Bookings
DETAILS of hire charges for rooms are available on request from Room Bookings Secretary Wyn Lawrence (tel 01904 639231) through whom all bookings should be made.
They are arranged on the basis of hourly fees for a minimum of three hours for the Worship Centre and two hours for all other rooms.
All times booked must include setting up and tidying away.
 
 
 
Other information
 
Access
Access to all rooms is via the Southlands Road entrance which is served by a ramp for the disabled (running from the car park), and by steps (from Southlands Road), although there is direct access to the Community Centre from the car park (at the top of Nunmill Street, YO23 1NU).
 
Toilets
The church spent a huge sum of money on gutting and modernising the toilets on the premises. Users of Room 1, Room 2, Room 3 and the Worship Centre have access to toilets for ladies and gents on the ground floor near the foot of the main staircase and the disabled toilet (Radar key required) inside the Community Centre.

Catering
If required, use of our main kitchen should be agreed at the time of booking.
  
Would-be users need to be aware of the following conditions:
1. No alcoholic drinks are allowed on the premises
2. No raffles or other forms of gambling are allowed.
3. Any group needing the kitchen facilities should ask at the time of booking and recognise that Southlands is a ”Fairtrade” church
4. It is the responsibility of the hirer to ensure that all crockery and cutlery used is washed up and put away
5. The hirer must also take away all food waste
6. Rooms should be left as they are found, clean and tidy
7. Southlands is a no-smoking zone
8. Party political meetings and children’s parties will be refused
9. We have a small car park, but parking for church events, meetings
and services must have priority
