Messy Church
|
Messy Church and Southlands Messy Church in this part of York is a joint project involving Southlands and St Chad's (CofE), alternating between the two churches. It aims to provide a time when families can come together and enjoy being together, making things together, eating together and celebrating God together. It's the sort of thing that appeals to today's families with the emphasis on just being messy and brings the community together to focus on Christ while showing God's love through Christian hospitality.
It provides an excellent opportunity to reach out to families who are not regular churchgoers and would not have the opportunity to meet with Christ in their daily lives. Southlands is partnered with St Chad's to run Messy Church for the Southbank area as part of its mission to reach young people and families in the area. The first three events were held at St Chad's and attracted 75 people of all ages on the first occasion, 125 on the second and 130 on the third. Southlands was the venue for the fourth - Mini Messy Christmas - which was attended by more than 140 adults and children, on the first Tuesday of the school Christmas holidays. There were lots of hands-on activities on offer including various crafts. There was food for everyone, and no charge for admission. The next Messy Church event will be on Saturday, 25th February, from 15:00-17:00, also at Southlands. So come and join us and see what the mess is all about. Further Messy Church events are planned for Saturday, 21st April, 2012, at St Chad's; Saturday, 23rd June, 2012, at Southlands; Saturday, 22nd September, 2012, at St Chad's; and Saturday, 17th November, 2012, at Southlands.
