Methodist Women in Britain

WOMEN from across the York and Hull District are supporting the work of Open Doors at Princes Avenue Methodist Church, in Hull, as it helps asylum seekers and refugees.
They are also supporting the Longman Memorial School at Brikama, in The Gambia.
The two projects were announced by Mrs Jean Rippon, District President of Methodist Women in Britain, at her District Projects Day at Driffield Methodist Church in October 2011. A number of women from Southlands were among those at Driffield for the day.
The “home” project, at Princes Avenue, is a cause with which Jean has been involved since its inception many years ago after church folk had noticed small groups of refugees hanging around near the church and looking as if they were in need of some TLC.
The church tries to be a haven for asylum seekers and refugees who arrive at Hull from Europe and Africa. It opens every Thursday, offering warmth, security, friendship and help.
