Council cancels community event

CHURCHES Together in South West York was planning to have a visible presence, with gazebo, leaflets and free gifts at the Rowntree Park Birthday, a big community event in this neighbourhood.

It was scheduled to take place from 2.00pm to 5.00pm on Sunday, July 11, but soon after 9.00am on the day of the event it was cancelled by City of York Parks Department "because of predicted high winds".

Hundreds of free gifts we had planned to give out will now be saved until next year's event, fliers advertising the Praise by the Bridge Special the following Sunday were distributed through schools and some were delivered house to house in a number of streets. Leaflets outling the work of Churches Together in South West York are being distributed to hotels and guest houses in the area.
