Rooms for hire at Southlands

WE HAVE a modern, welcoming worship centre, a useful suite of meeting rooms, a new hall, and a community centre which is home to most of our work with children and young people.
 
But the community centre, the new hall and some of our rooms are available for hire on Saturday mornings, afternoons, and evenings, and on some other mornings, afternoons and occasional evenings during the week at quite reasonable charges (see below) so get in touch with Room Bookings Officer Wyn Lawrence by emailing her on wyn@southlandsmethodist.org.uk, phoning property steward Bob Lawrence on 07850 482994, or emailing Bob on bob@southlandsmethodist.org.uk.

Room 1View of Room 1 at Southlands Methodist Church
This room, which is accessible at ground level is one of the most heavily used rooms in the premises and is particularly useful for meetings and activities, on a regular or occasional basis.
The room is carpeted and well-lit and it accommodates up to 50 people, depending on setting.
Facilities include a double power socket at both ends of the room, a loop system, a pull-down screen mounted on one wall, and an upright piano.
This room has the advantage of being near the main kitchen and can be hired for £12.50 per hour (occasional bookings) or £10.50 per hour (regular bookings). The minimum booking is for two hours, including setting up and clearing away.

This room is on the first floor at the top of the main staircase and also has stair-lift access. Like Room 1, which is immediately below, it is carpeted and accommodates up to 50 people, depending on setting.
Facilities include a double power socket at both ends of the room, a pull-down screen mounted on one wall, and an upright piano.
It is available for hire most mornings and afternoons and on occasional evenings at a cost of £12.50 per hour (occasional bookings) or £10.50 per hour (regular bookings). Minimum bookings are for two hours.

This room, on the first floor with staircase and stair-lift access, is the smallest of our meeting rooms, but it is carpeted and will accommodate up to 20 people, depending on setting. Facilities include double power sockets on two walls, an upright piano and direct access to a unisex toilet.
It is available for hire most mornings and afternoons and on occasional evenings for £10.50 an hour (occasional bookings) or £8.50 per hour (regular bookings). Minimum booking is for two hours.

This space is not carpeted but has a modern oak-block floor at ground level on which 80 people can be accommodated. It has the advantage of direct access to toilets for men and women and a toilet for the disabled (Radar key required). If needed an upright piano can be wheeled out of an adjoining storeroom.
This hall is heavily used on weeknight evenings, but is available for hire for £26 per hour (occasional bookings and children's parties) or £21 per hour (regular bookings) on most afternoons, including Saturdays, and also on some mornings. Evening hire is an option during school holidays. Minimum booking is for two hours.
 
New hall
A new hall has been created at ground level by shortening the Worship Centre or Church. This hall can accommodate 90 to 100 people, depending on setting. The floor is not carpeted and is currently available for hire on most days and evenings for £20 per hour (occasional bookings) or £18 per hour (regular bookings). Minimum booking is for two hours.
 
The Worship Centre or Church
The church itself can accommodate just over 100 people though seating is normally set out for around 60. The floor slopes gently up  to the front where we have our communion table, a lectern and a screen. There is also a Bechstein grand piano and the main kitchen is nearby.
The Worship Centre can be hired for £25 per hour (occasional bookings) or £21 per hour (regular bookings). Minimum booking is for two hours.
 
Combined Church and new hall space
On occasions, for example for a concert, hirers may wish to use a larger space created by opening out church and new hall. The hire charge for this combined space is £130 for a total of three hours (minimum booking) plus £40 for each additional hour.
 
Bookings

However, would-be users need to be aware of the
following conditions:
1. No alcoholic drinks are allowed on the premises
2. Any group needing  the kitchen facilities should ask at the time of booking and recognise that Southlands is a ”Fairtrade” church
3. It is the responsibility of the hirer to ensure that all crockery
and cutlery used is washed up and put away
4. The hirer must take away all food waste
5. Rooms should be left as they are found, clean and tidy
6. Southlands is a no-smoking zone
7. Party political meetings will be refused
8. We have a small car park, but parking for church events, and services must have priority
9. All times booked must include setting up and tidying away.
 
Other information
 
Access
Access to all rooms is via the Southlands Road entrance which is served by a ramp for the disabled (running from the car park), and by steps (from Southlands Road), although there is direct access to the Community Centre from the car park (at the top of Nunmill Street, YO23 1NU).
 
Toilets
Users of Room 1, Room 2, Room 3, the new hall and the Worship Centre have access to toilets for ladies and gents on the ground floor near the foot of the main staircase and the disabled toilet (Radar key required) inside the Community Centre.
Community Centre users have direct access to toilets for ladies and gents and for the disabled (Radar key required).
 
Catering
Please note: use of our main kitchen should be agreed at the time of booking.
