The worshipping community

A Worshipping Community

THE main purpose of the church is to be a place of worship where people can meet regularly to praise God, to learn about God’s love and purpose for His people, and be inspired to work and witness for God in the days that follow.

We are glad to be able to worship God in fellowship with our friends and we are always happy to welcome newcomers and visitors to our services, usually held at 10.30am and 6.30pm on Sundays.

Our Young Church groups meet while Sunday morning worship is taking place and we also offer creche facilities.

Southlands is one of 19 churches in the York South Circuit so we hear the scriptures explained to us by preachers drawn from a large team of ministers and lay people, in addition to our own minister, the Rev Keith Himsworth.

All-age worship services, using digital projection, are usually held on Sunday mornings at the end of the month and are often planned and led by a team comprising minister Keith Himsworth, worship leaders Bob Lawrence and John Whitworth, church steward Alison White and a church member, and occasionally by FLAME, our young adults group.

This month there will be an All Age Worship service on August 8, led by the team responsible for our Holiday Kids Club which meets on weekday mornings from August 2 to August 8. In September there will be an All Age Worship and Parade Service on September 26 as part of our Harvest weekend celebrations.

The worship group is also involved in planning and leading cafe-style worship evenings taking place on occasional Sundays, from 6.30pm. The aim is to offer worship until 8.00pm broken up with several mini-sermons or armchair interviews. People are able to come and go when they please, but they are invited to bring a snack. Tea, coffee and squash are available throughout. The next of these will be in  the autumn.
