Worship

A Worshipping Community

THE main purpose of the church is to be a place of worship where people can meet regularly to praise God, to learn about God’s love and purpose for His people, and be inspired to work and witness for God in the days that follow.

Sunday services normally take place at 10:30 and 18:30, and the morning service on 26th February will be an All Age Worship service.

All-age worship services, often using digital projection, are usually held on Sunday mornings at the end of the month and are planned and led by a team comprising minister Jennifer McKenzie, worship leaders Bob Lawrence and John Whitworth, and church stewards Alison White and Jill Johnson, or by FLAME, our young adults group, or by John Hattam, our Children and Families Worker.

Our Young Church groups meet while Sunday morning worship is taking place in church  and we also offer creche facilities.

Southlands is one of 19 churches in the York South Circuit so we hear the scriptures explained to us by preachers drawn from a large team of ministers and lay people, in addition to our own minister, the Rev Jennifer McKenzie.

Our Covenant Service

The annual Covenant Service is a uniquely Methodist service which is very special to us as we renew our promise to serve God wherever he calls us, in whatever way he calls and in any situation in which we find ourselves. This year, by invitation and for the first time, we took our Methodist Covenant Service to the parish church of St Chad on the Knavesmire, in Campleshon Road.
